Residents have been invited to provide feedback on the Government's plans for electric vehicle charging infrastructure on the island, as part of a formal consultation phase that follows the drafting of policy goals and objectives for EV charging.

The document was produced by the National Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure Committee, a body mandated to support the Ministry of Tourism, Transport, Culture and Sport in developing national EV charging policy — itself a component of Bermuda's Economic Recovery Plan 2021. The committee draws representatives from various sectors and government departments, including the transport ministry, the Department of Planning, the Department of Energy, the Regulatory Authority, and Belco. Meeting bimonthly, the committee has been reviewing and analysing data, usage trends, and international best practices. Its work was described by a government spokesman as "instrumental" in identifying the most strategic, sustainable, and cost-effective approach to deploying EV charging infrastructure across the island.

The consultation follows a commitment made in the 2022 Throne Speech to develop a National Electric Vehicle Policy and Strategy for Bermuda. A central element of the Government's plan is the phased elimination of the sale and importation of internal combustion engine vehicles, making a robust charging infrastructure essential to the programme's success.

The draft NEVCI policy goals and objectives are available at forum.gov.bm/en, and a stakeholder questionnaire can be completed at forms.cloud.microsoft/r/FLv06ksCav. Residents are encouraged to review the materials and submit feedback by July 13.
